                                                Are you there?

Interviewers Today Put You on a Stage

                                                Do you know your lines?

--------PLEASE BRING WITH YOU:

So that you can get into development of your own job search strategies as soon as possible, please bring the following documents to the first session:

1.   Your most current resume

2.   A simple anecdote (or two – the more, the better) about a task you felt you handled successfully.  The text should be conceived according to the acronym,

S T A R (Situation, Task, Action, Result).  That is to say, tell us the Situation you were in that gave rise to the Task that needed to be addressed.  Then tell us what Action(s) you took to address the need, and finally, the Results you achieved that could be classified as an accomplishment.

An action is an accomplishment if it did one or more of the following:

  • Improved operations or made processes better
  • Achieved more with the same resources
  • Achieved the same with fewer resources
  • Resolved a problem with little or no increase in time, energy, dollars
    or people
  • Undertook something for the first time (e.g., designing a training manual)

Accomplishment Examples:

  • As Facilities Manager in an organization involved in downsizing, I streamlined the facilities and equipment by 20%.
  • As staff in the IT Department of my organization, I implemented a hot line that provided telephone support to 2,000+ personal computer product customers.
  • Assisted in the development and implementation of a no-fault absenteeism policy that reduced absenteeism by 12%.

As the saying goes, Get ready to hit the ground running!...
